Giant Step forward for Korea’s #1 Financial Group
In early 2000, the financial industry was once again facing a crisis as the second financial restructuring was heralded as the aftermath of 1997 financial crisis. To survive, Shinhan took the initiative to establish a financial holding company, a system that would allow us to expand its scale across multiple sectors, to become a comprehensive financial group and lead a new trend in Korean finance. Since then, Shinhan Financial has become one of Korea’s leading financial institutions through major M&As, including Chohung Bank and LG Card.
